Group Description:

Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) provides internal advisory and deal execution services to executives and business heads throughout the organization, including close collaboration with legal, finance/accounting, tax and other areas for all business units and geographies across Citigroup and its subsidiaries. Projects include acquisitions and other expansionary transactions, divestitures, transaction management, corporate valuation, sell-side auctions, exploratory M&A analysis and advisement of senior executives and Board of Directors and completion of the Separability workstream for Citi's annual recovery and resolution plans.

With 12 professionals located in New York, Texas and London; M&A partners with all the Finance disciplines globally. M&A participates in the development and execution of Citi's strategy and ongoing restructuring.

Recent examples of projects executed by M&A include all of the recently announced divestitures associated with Citi's Asia Consumer franchises, including Australia, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia Vietnam, and Taiwan as well as the acquisition of RBC's Securities Services clients in Australia, referral of Nordea's sub-custody clients in the Nordic region, and the annual development of a comprehensive object of sale divestiture strategy for Citi's successful Resolution Plan submissions.


The VP has day-to-day project management responsibility for the execution of acquisitions and divestitures, and the other aforementioned assignments in support of a Managing Director and/or Director. The VP is responsible for coordinating the execution of every phase of the assignment among a cross-functional team inside Citi.


  • Participates in various aspects of assessing and executing strategic transactions for Citi
  • Contributes to the identification, analysis and prioritization of strategic transaction targets, contacting prospective targets or their professional advisors to discuss opportunities
  • Researches potential acquisition and divestiture targets, prepare financial analyses and models, produce reports and updates for executives and regulators, and participate in the preparation and evaluation of marketing materials and approval documents for executives and the Board of Directors.
  • Assists in developing financial models and projections, assembling and coordinating due diligence processes
  • Assists in the negotiation and documentation of transactions, addressing key transaction issues with Citigorup functional teams, and coordinating internal approval processes and assisting in the preparation of related presentation and notification materials
  • Aids in the closing and integration of assets into Citi's management structure, operating and financial reporting platforms and other systems
  • Regularly assumes informal/formal leadership role within teams.
  • Involved in coaching and training of new recruits
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency. Qualifications:
    • 4-6 years of experience as a professional in investment banking with significant M&A exposure.
    • Excellent analytical and financial modeling skills, including financial statement analysis, and accounting skills / knowledge
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Detail-oriented with exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
    • Ability to lead a variety of transactions and projects simultaneously.
    • Resourceful self-starter; able to work autonomously.
