Job Title: Clinical Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 7 am – 5 pm Hours per Shift: 9.5 hours Experience: 2 years of recent experience required, Eye, ENT, Plastics experience required License: NYS RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, CNOR, PALS Must-Have: - Minimum 2 years RN experience - 2 years OR experience with scrub and circulate Description: The Clinical Nurse provides safe, competent quality care based on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients and significant others. Delivers patient care by incorporating the tenets of the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care. Utilizes the nursing process based on theory, research, evidence-based practice, and approved organizational nursing standards. Assesses and evaluates patient care needs while applying critical thinking skills in patient care management. Integrates relevant assessment and intervention skills in the delivery of nursing care. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care. Prioritizes all aspects of patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, and planning after hospital care. Educates patients and caregivers about their plan of care, transition of care, health promotion, and disease prevention. Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, families, and all members of the Interdisciplinary Patient Care Team. Manages assignments within the Care Delivery Model and demonstrates effective resource allocation. Role models the tenets of Relationship Centered Care through facilitation of key patient care actions. Considers patients' values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs in all aspects of care. Establishes and maintains a therapeutic relationship with patients and families. Uses evidence-based practices to enhance understanding of patient perceptions of care. Initiates service recovery for patients and families with concerns and escalates as needed. Demonstrates caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening through dialogue and actions. Supports staff use of evidence-based practices to improve understanding of patient perceptions of care. Practices safe and efficient patient-centered care, identifying barriers and opportunities for improvement. Demonstrates clinical skills and knowledge crucial to quality and safety in the patient population served. Implements process improvement strategies based on evidence and organizational procedures. Engages in peer and institutional review processes formally and informally. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on quality improvement projects and evidence-based practice activities. Contributes to quality and safety practices and compliance measures. Implements principles of high reliability to avoid high-risk behaviors, ensuring a safe environment for patients. Escalates potential safety hazards or gaps in best practice following established protocols. Utilizes institutional technology for documenting nursing practice to support quality improvement initiatives. Performs charge nurse duties as assigned. Coordinates with clinical leadership to ensure supplies are utilized appropriately and inventory is sufficient. Escalates resource deficits to clinical leadership as necessary. Documents accurately and thoroughly in compliance with legal and standard care requirements. Facilitates patient throughput effectively. Contributes to an environment of care that supports clinical colleagues, patients, and families. Advances clinical competence to progress from novice to expert. Projects a professional image and communicates with caring and respectful methods. Incorporates ethical principles into decision making for patients and families.
